MEERUT: From growing up in a small village in UP's Baghpat to posing on the red carpet in a self-stitched gown at the 77th Cannes festival in France, 21-year-old Nancy Tyagi has come a long way.
Nancy, who made her debut at the prestigious film festival, wore a pink ruffled gown, weighing 20 kg on the first day. It was made of 1,000 metres of fabric and took 30 days for the young influencer to make.

On the second day, she wore a silver sequined saree with a hooded backless blouse which, again, was her own creation.
Her brother, Manu Tyagi said, “She came to Delhi to prepare for the civil service exam despite resistance from people. Then COVID struck and she was locked up at home, leading her to create fashion content for social media. However, she didn’t get much engagement for a year. Last year, she decided to create a series ‘100 outfits from scratch for 100 days’. She now has 1.1 million followers on Instagram.”
Speaking to TOI, Nancy said, “My struggle sparked my interest in fashion and it also kept me busy. I didn’t have any aim apart from allowing my mother to quit her job, but now I aim to work as a fashion designer.”
Talking about her experience at Cannes, she said, "It is more than a dream... I never thought that something like this would ever happen to me. However, I didn't like the food there and I carried a bag full of ready-to-eat food from India."
Her father, Gajendra Singh, a TV technician in Barnawa village, said, “I have never travelled beyond Delhi in my life but my daughter made it abroad. She worked really hard despite the criticism and achieved what she wanted.”
